Silverstone, Great Britain 7 July 2002

Round ten of the World Championship, is the home race for seven of the eleven teams. A medium downforce and technical circuit, with a mixture of high and low speed corners with some long straights makes Silverstone quite physically demanding, although quite popular among the drivers.

British Grand Prix preview

DHL Jordan Honda’s target for the British Grand Prix is a return to its recent points-scoring success, at a race which is significant for the team because its location on the doorstep of Jordan’s headquarters means a special weekend is in store for fans, staff and their families.

Eddie Jordan, Chief Executive, said,  "It’s good to be back at Silverstone, because it’s where we started from, and it’s now our home.  We make an effort to bring factory-based staff and their families together to enjoy the race, at the one occasion when we are able to do that.  I’m always encouraged by the support from our fans, especially Club Jordan, and the fact that we get a lot of enthusiasm from Ireland, as it’s the closest race for Irish fans, makes the event even more special."

Downpour hits opener

Worsening rain badly affected the opening practice session for this weekend's British Grand Prix, causing several spins and reducing track time for all the teams.  Championship leader Michael Schumacher spun off in his Ferrari on his first lap, and was forced to sit out the remainder of the session as team mate Rubens Barrichello set the fastest time for Ferrari.

Jordan 3rd and 5th

Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato were 3rd and 5th fastest for DHL Jordan Honda in today's practice sessions behind the dominant Ferraris of Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher, and sandwiching Juan Pablo Montoya's Williams.  The wet conditions were slightly improved after the downpour of this morning, but the track remained slippery throughout.

Ferrari tops times

Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher turned in the quickest times during practice this morning, and with the two Williams' behind them followed by McLaren, it was an entirely predictable top 6.  In dry conditions DHL Jordan Honda dropped back to 16th and 17th positions, Giancarlo Fisichella missing the first 45 minute session when his car developed a fault, and Takuma Sato only two tenths slower as the team worked to find a good dry-weather set-up.

Montoya grabs pole

Juan Pablo Montoya gave Williams its fourth successive pole position with a stunning lap at the end of qualifying to beat the Ferraris of Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher.  For DHL Jordan Honda the qualifying session was ultimately disappointing, Takuma Sato and Giancarlo Fisichella managing to set the 14th and 17th fastest times.

Ferrari dominate warm-up

DHL Jordan Honda had a promising warm-up session this morning with Takuma Sato 4th fastest and Giancarlo Fisichella 12th.  Ferrari dominated the session with Rubens Barrichello once again slightly quicker than team mate Michael Schumacher.

Schumacher wins dramatic Silverstone race

Michael Schumacher won a dramatic British Grand Prix and with Rubens Barrichello second it was a perfect day for the dominant Ferrari team after a thrilling race which saw changing weather conditions pay a significant role throughout.  DHL Jordan Honda had a solid race, Giancarlo Fisichella finishing 7th and hot on the heels of Sauber's Nick Heidfeld, while Takuma Sato retired eight laps from the finish as the result of engine failure.
