Arrows off target

The British GP weekend is living up to its reputation for throwing up surprises even before the event has got underway. The Arrows team is the centre of attention with rumours of imminent doom making the headlines.

The team was in the London High Court today trying to lift legal undertakings it made to a number of creditors.  According to reports, the Judge, Mr Justice Lightman said that the company was in "a dire financial position", and that if it missed a Grand Prix through insolvency it could lose the right to compete in Formula One.

"At the present time the prognosis is that, short of a miracle, the company is doomed," said Robin Potts Q.C.  He added that Arrows would have to go into liquidation or administration or find a last-minute sponsor to pay for its supply of Cosworth engines.

Meanwhile, in the Silverstone paddock, the Arrows cars made a brief appearance in the team’s garage, before being hastily removed, according to rumour, to avoid being impounded.

The team has issued no official statement at the moment.
