Renault F1’s engine guru, Jean-Jacques His is to leave the team at the end of this month. A short statement from the team states that His has decided on a career change after working for the company almost his entire working life, since 1973. In recent months, the wide V angle Renault engine design has come in for some criticism. Since then, His, who was managing director of the French side of the operation, was moved to the role of technical director, before that title was also taken away with the return of Bernard Dudot to the position. It is unlikely the 56 year old Frenchman will be out of work for long, as he is highly rated. Apart from his time at Renault, His also headed the Ferrari engine department from 1986 to 1988.
