The Minardi team, currently using Asiatech engines, has apparently got a choice of running either Ferrari or Cosworth engines next year. Cost would seem to be the key to the decision as the 2002 Italian power units are bound to be more expensive than the UK-built units. Since the team entered F1 in 1985, it has used Ford power for nine seasons and ran Ferrari engines back in 1991. If team owner Paul Stoddart does find funding for Ferrari V10s, it would mean the Italian engines would be powering no less than three teams, as apart from its own team, it already supplies Sauber. However, it has the infrastructure in place, as it used to supply the now defunct Prost equipe.
