Testing times at Barcelona

Jordan is on the way to Barcelona for its first test of 2002!  On Saturday 5 January, three trucks and two EJ11s left the team’s Silverstone headquarters, and by the time the cars start running on Wednesday morning, 36 team personnel will have arrived at the Spanish circuit.  There they will meet the team’s new drivers: Italian Giancarlo Fisichella, who returns to Jordan following a four year spell at Benetton, and Japanese Takuma Sato, the newly crowned and record-breaking British F3 Champion.

Both drivers will spend three days getting familiar with the Jordan cars, which will be running some development parts for the EJ12.  It will not be the first time either driver has been at the wheel of a Jordan however, as Takuma took part in a test session with the team at Jerez in December 2000, and Giancarlo raced (and tested) for the team in 1997.

The trucks, cars and about 20 members of the team will remain in Spain to make the three hour drive from Barcelona to Valencia, to prepare for Jordan’s second 2002 test session which takes place 15 – 17 January.  Takuma is also planning to stay in Spain between the two sessions, to continue work on his intensive physical training programme.
