The Benson & Hedges Jordan-Honda team has its first day of testing for 2002 today (9th January.) Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato join drivers from seven other teams, who were already in action yesterday at the Circuit de Catalunya.
McLaren's David Coulthard was quickest in Barcelona, ahead of Ralf Schumacher in the Williams. At this stage of the season, lap times mean very little, with a mix of 2001 cars, interim specification machines and this year's new challengers all sharing the track. Much of yesterday's session was also disrupted by rain.
There were several "firsts" yesterday: Toyota's appearance alongside other teams, after a year testing alone; Luciano Burti's debut as a Ferrari test driver, former Jordan driver Jarno Trulli's first time behind the wheel of a Renault and the first sighting of Kimi Raikkonen in a McLaren.
