Jason Priestley, the former actor and star of Beverly Hills 90210, is recovering in hospital after an accident yesterday in an Indy Racing practice session at Kentucky Speedway. Priestley hit the wall at Turn 2 during practice for the Kentucky 100 Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series race and was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, once medics had stabilised him at the circuit.
Dr. Henry Bock, medical services director of the Indy Racing League said Priestley has fractures to both feet, a closed head injury and a fracture of the thoracic spine. He is stable and is responding.
"His vital signs have been stable since he left here.", said Dr Bock in a press conference transcript on www.indyracing.com. "He certainly has a closed-head injury. We have no indication from any of the scans that he has any further damage to his head. He also has fractures to both of his feet and he has a fracture to one of the vertebrae in his spine. He broke his nose during the crash. Other than that, everything else seems to be stabilised on him and that's all being evaluated for further treatment at this time."
Priestley has been a motor racing enthusiast for many years, and he acted as ABC's pit lane reporter at the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis last year. He was a guest of Jordan Grand Prix for much of the weekend, and the team has sent him its best wishes for a speedy recovery.
