The Ferrari team continues to dominate the San Marino Grand Prix weekend, with Rubens Barrichello fastest in warm-up and Michael Schumacher second. The DHL Jordan Hondas of Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato continued to circulate in low mid-field positions, both drivers and team working hard to find more speed on the Imola track but unable to make any significant progress.
The track was damp in places at the start of warm-up but dried throughout, and as the times fell the Jordans dropped back to finish 14th and 16th. The much-promised rain seems to have disappeared with reports this morning that there is only a 20% chance of rain for the race.
Today looks set to see Michael Schumacher claim yet another victory. With his 45th pole position under his belt, the German will set a new record today for the largest number of starts for any Ferrari driver in the team's 52 year history.
After warm up Fisichella said: "I am hoping for a wet race as we are not very competitive in the dry. I had a lot of traffic during the session so couldn't improve my lap times, which was frustrating."
Takuma Sato was reasonably happy: "The car felt good but there were a couple of small problems which I hope can be sorted out before the race. I had a little too much understeer, probably from the conditions rather than the car."
