Whether you’re a team owner or a tyre fitter, stress is an everyday feature of Formula 1 life. However, thanks to a new sponsorship agreement with vielife the Jordan Grand Prix staff should be able to keep their cool, whatever the situation this season.
Vielife is the brainchild of Francois Duforez, a familiar figure on the F1 scene, who has looked after the health of several drivers, including four-times world champion, Alain Prost. What Duforez has come up with is essentially a programme that integrates four critical areas of health and well-being: sleep, stress, nutrition and physical activity.
This is more than a simple diet and exercise programme, as it aims to look at every aspect of people’s lives. Eddie Jordan will be enrolled into vielife’s Executive programme, which takes into account health hazards such as stress and spending hours on long haul flights. Amongst other elements, Eddie will provide info about his sleep patterns and food intake and a programme will be specifically designed to meet his needs. The two drivers, Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato will spend a day at the company’s London HQ, undergoing a full assessment. While the needs of a grand prix driver are somewhat specialised, the entire Jordan workforce will have access to the vielife programme, through an interactive on-line service.
If you think this all sounds like one of those unsubstantiated “New Age” approaches, then think again. The vielife programme has already proved its worth in several sports, such as golf, yachting and tennis and is now proving popular with air force pilots. Eddie Jordan is certainly convinced it will be yet another plus for him, his drivers and the team. “For people of my age (a youthful 53!) who are moving around for 10 months of the year on long-haul flights with irregular sleep and not eating properly, this programme is absolutely perfect.”
