As today's Malaysian Grand Prix coincides with St Patrick's Day celebrations for Irish people all over the world, Jordan Grand Prix is marking the event in several ways, most notably by running the shamrock symbol on its EJ12 cars as well as hosting the Irish ambassadors from Malaysia and Singapore plus a senior Irish government minister.
First suggested by Richard O'Driscoll, Jordan's Chief Financial Officer and a proud Irishman like team principal Eddie Jordan, the shamrock decals were hastily organised by another Irish team member - Head of Marketing Mark Gallagher - yesterday afternoon by searching the internet for a suitable shamrock graphic to download! Other Irish team members at the track - Director of Race and Test Engineering Gary Anderson, Control Engineer John McColgan and IT Technician Mark Cormican - were present at this morning's unveiling of the shamrock livery in front of Sky Digital cameras in the Jordan garage.
The Irish ambassador to Malaysia, Daniel Mulhall, is visiting the track today along with the Irish ambassador to Singapore, Brendan Lyons, while Ireland's Minister for Social Community and Family Affairs, Dermot Ahern, met Eddie Jordan and the team during the morning.
Whether or not the shamrock logo will bring the team luck in today's race remains to be seen - Jordan previously sported the shamrock logo when supported by the Irish Tourist Board during the mid-1990s - but a points finish this afternoon would give EJ and the team even more reason to celebrate St Patrick's Day in style.
