Professor Sid Watkins has been made an officer of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. The man known in F1 circles simply as "The Prof" has been in charge of F1’s medical facilities since 1978. A permanent fixture in the medical car which follows the cars off the grid and rushes out to deal with any serious incidents, Watkins also chairs the F1 Safety Commission and has been instrumental in many of the changes which have made grand prix racing safer over the past few years.
