Romans in Londinium

Following in the footsteps of his ancestors, Jordan's very own Roman, Giancarlo Fisichella, invaded London for a day at the end of January. But instead of an army, "Fisico" was accompanied by a TV crew from Italy's RAI 1 channel, who filmed his every move.

The day kicked off in Knightsbridge, but rather than face the January Sales, Fisichella settled for a bit of window shopping outside famous stores like Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Travelling in a Honda Accord Type R, it was then time for a history lesson in Parliament Square. Although no stranger to the capital, Giancarlo had never actually visited Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament or Big Ben. So, like all good tourists, he posed for photos with a London "Bobby" before moving on to a more modern landmark, the London Eye, then a drive down The Mall to Buckingham Palace.

Next stop was lunch in a typically English pub, but Giancarlo didn’t like the look of traditional fare like bangers and mash and bubble and squeak, settling instead for the biggest steak in the world. No doubt the huge meal and the rigours of acting as a London cabbie for the film crew all day, had something to do with the fact that Fisichella slept all the way on the journey back to the team's Silverstone HQ, where he was due to have his first run in EJ12 the next day.
