Canadian Grand Prix promoter Norman Legault reckons he has now found the necessary funding to stage the race in 2004. Currently, the Montreal event, scheduled for 13th June, has a provisional entry on next year’s calendar. It was originally scrapped, because of new anti-tobacco legislation. A provisional agreement was put forward that the race could take place if each of the ten F1 teams received US$ 2 million as compensation for running without tobacco advertising at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Legault told a Montreal newspaper that he has come up with half the money and that national and local government will come up with the other half.
