Fisichella will not race

Giancarlo Fisichella will not race in tomorrow's French Grand Prix on the advise of the FIA's medical chief Professor Sid Watkins.  Although the Italian was given the all clear following his accident this morning, Watkins has advised that he should rest for the next few days given the seriousness of the impact.

DHL Jordan Honda announced the decision in this afternoon's post-qualifying press release.  Fisichella had been taken to the circuit medical centre immediately after the accident, and then transferred to hospital in Nevers to undergo the necessary scans.  He was quickly released and returned to the circuit, but Professor Watkins felt that, on balance, it would be better to take a cautious approach.

"I don't remember what happened," said Giancarlo.  "I know I lost the front wing but I don't know why.  I feel alright, I just have a slight headache and some neck pain.  The doctor told me it's not possile for me to race because of the very big deceleration I experienced in the accident, so I'm going to rest in preparation for Hockenheim."
