Test team truckie Stuart McNally entered two 2CV races at Silverstone this weekend at a two day meeting organised by the BARC (British Automobile Racing Club) South Eastern Centre.
"It was mega fun!", Stuart commented afterwards, "although on Sunday the track was wet so it was really slippery, and competing with 2CVs is really basic, raw racing. But it needs smooth, technically refined driving just like F1..."
Stuart took part in a 20 lap sprint race on Saturday, qualifying 13th and finishing 10th on a grid of 18 entrants. Sunday's race was a greater challenge, a one hour endurance race which took place in very wet conditions. With co-driver Martin Woodley, Stuart qualified 7th and at one stage was as high as 4th position, but following a hairy moment "with quite a bit of pushing and shoving" he dropped back to 7th and following a driver change, Martin brought their car home in 10th place. Stuart set the 4th fastest lap time in both events.
Saturday's 2CV sprint race was won by Paul Taylor and Sunday's endurance race by Colin Whiteley and David O'Keefe. Other races in the BARC South Eastern Centre's weekend schedule included Caterhams and the culmination of the Silverstone Racing Club Championship, in which members on a five day course were able to show off their new skills.
Stuart wishes to thank his supporters: Retford 2CV, The Old Coachhouse Inn in Ashby-St-Ledger and the 1926 Timber Flooring Company.
