When they're not in the office...

While many staff at Jordan have traded in their road cars for Hondas, there are a handful who cling passionately to their favourite wheels... One such individual is Richard Gledhill, a Control Engineer at Jordan's Silverstone HQ, and recently he married his enthusiasm for his Subaru Impreza with his dedication to the team and F1, by organising a karting competition between Jordan staff and members of the Subaru Impreza owners club.

On Sunday 17th February, three teams of Jordan staff took on thirteen teams of Subaru Impreza drivers and colleagues at a 2-hour endurance event at Whilton Mill, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom.

Before the kart race, the group stopped by the Jordan factory to pop in and see the EJ11 show car which is on display in reception and is a popular photo-opportunity for fans. A short drive took everyone to the Whilton Mill karting venue in Daventry, where bacon butties were provided for all participating drivers.

One driver on the "Subaru team" had purchased a set of Jordan team mechanic's racing overalls from the 2000 season especially for the event, and subsequently raced in full Jordan yellows!   The racing was close, in slippery conditions and fading light, with the lead changing throughout the two hour race, but final honours went to the Jordan staff team "Bitten Heroes": Lee Stevenson, Chris King and Sam Oliveira, with Subaru owners' teams "Team Weave" and "Arkansas Chuggabug" coming in second and third.  All in all, a thrilling way to take a break from hectic pre-season preparations.
