Jordan's Head of Corporate Communications Giselle Davies is to leave the team after five years to take up a new post working for the International Oympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland. With full agreement from Jordan, the IOC announced on Wednesday that Davies, 32, will be their new Director of Communications.
Davies joined Jordan at the beginning of 1997, replacing Louise Goodman as the team's Head of Press & PR, having previously worked for Benetton. She comes from a family with strong sporting ties, her father Barry Davies being one of the BBC's leading sports commentators for the past 30 years - including covering the Olympic Games - while brother Mark also now works for the BBC as a sports reporter on both radio and television.
Davies will report to IOC President Jacques Rogge and Director General Francois Carrard, handling communications for the winter and summer Games, and is set to leave Jordan to take up the post in early May.
"I have really enjoyed working at Jordan these past five years," she said. "I have seen a lot of interesting times including the team's first victory, drivers starting their careers with us such as Ralf Schumacher and Takuma Sato, and also the retirements of greats like Damon Hill and Jean Alesi. I will have a lot of fond memories, especially of the fun and cameraderie within the team, and there has never been a dull moment with Eddie! I will also miss a lot of the Formula One media with whom I have made strong friendships. Even though I will be involved in a very different sporting arena with the IOC, I will continue too follow Formula One closely and, of course, rooting for Jordan."
Davies and her assistant, Communications Executive Helen Temple, will together continue to handle all media enquiries to Jordan over the next six weeks, and the team is actively seeking a replacement for Giselle.
