Jaguar's Mark Webber emerged fastest in this mornings practice session in Monte Carlo, a tenth of a second quicker than Jensen Button's BAR. Jordan Ford's Giancarlo Fisichella was among the most competitive drivers during the session, eventually setting the seventh fastest time, while team mate Ralph Firman came to grips with the track early on and set some very promising times en route to 16th fastest time.
In excellent conditions there were the usual incidents and accidents as drivers worked their way around the unforgiving Monte Carlo street circuit, but Jordan Ford looked good in both private testing and practice. Neither driver suffered any serious incident and Fisichella was happy with the balance of his EJ13 as he set consistently competitive times and even headed the time-sheets for a short period.
Ralph Firman built up his knowledge of the track steadily and he was the second fastest overall on the final sector of the track, his times suggesting that he could enjoy one of his best performances of the season to date. Putting together a quick lap is made extremely difficult by the traffic problems in Monaco, and indeed Firman's last flying lap of the day saw him lose a second in the last sector due to other cars.
Behind Webber and Button came David Coulthard's McLaren, the two Renaults which have been looking very competitive, and then the Ferrari of World Champion Michael Schumacher. team mate Rubens Barrichello was back in 10th position behind Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen.
