Spanish Grand Prix ace Pedro de la Rosa was the only competitor to finish yesterday's United States Grand Prix in the wet when a track marshal inadvertently told him to jump over a barrier - and straight into a stream. The luckless Jaguar driver had just retired from the Grand Prix when he was ask to hope over the armco barrer, not realising that there was a drop on the other side leading into a water course.
The former Jordan test driver said: "I jumped because a marshal told me to. There was a river on the other side of the barrier. They should have told me so that I didn't fall. It was just unbelieveable!"
De la Rosa's Jaguar retired with suspected transmission problems bringing the weekend to a disappointing end after the early promise of Eddie Irvine being third quickest on Saturday morning.
