Eddie cuts the crystal

Eddie Jordan was in Dublin on Monday to launch the "Jordan by Waterford Crystal" range of drinking glasses, a new design which carries the team's "speed" logo.

The launch took place in Brown Thomas, Ireland's biggest department store, off Grafton Street in Dublin. On Monday, the store was open exclusively to its card holders and it enjoyed its biggest grossing day of the year. The event started with a photocall for the team boss, outside the store where a Benson & Hedges Jordan Honda F1 car was on display. It drew huge crowds and part of the city was grid-locked for much of the morning.

Eddie joined members of the Irish government, including Taoiseach,  Bertie Aherne for a lunch to promote the Special Olympics, which will take place in Ireland in 2003. Jordan is a patron of the event. The Jordan team boss presented Mr. Aherne, Dennis O'Brien, Chairman of the Special Olympics and the singer Mary Black  with personally signed wine glasses from the new range, which includes a champagne flute, a tumbler, a wine goblet and a wine glass. In fact, the boss proved a dab hand at the engraver's art, wielding what looked like a dentist's drill with great skill and panache. He was kept busy in the afternoon, as customers in Brown Thomas queued for over an hour to have the glasses they had bought signed by the man himself. Eddie's efforts were rewarded at the end of the day, when Waterford Crystal's Chief Executive, John Foley presented him with a beautifully detailed crystal model of the Formula 1 car.

Eddie's day ended with the inevitable round of interviews with the Irish media, before he and wife Marie attended the Irish Sports Awards ceremony in the evening.
