Back To Motorhome Comfort After three races working from make-shift offices, the Benson & Hedges Jordan Honda team is enjoying the comparative luxury of working from purpose built motorhomes and trucks which double up at race weekends as portable work-units.
'It is so much easier working out of the trucks,' explains Team Manager Jim Vale. 'The back of the trucks are basically a mini factory work shop, where we can find the tools and equipment we need for working on the car. It is also much easier to set up our telecommunications infrastructure and computer network facilities than it was at the "fly-away" races.'
The Jordan marketing team is enjoying the splendour of a new motorhome unit which houses offices, meeting rooms, a physiotherapy room, as well as space to entertain the media and sponsors. Having seen a growth in new team motorhomes in the past few years, Jordan has joined the "big league" with its new £1.5 million facility which was originally commissioned by the Sultan of Brunei from a company called Spectra, the leader in mobile hospitality and motorhome design. The deal fell through in the early stages of the build and Jordan took the opportunity to buy the unit for the team.
The motorhome, which weighs 52 tonnes in total, takes eight hours for two staff to set up and six hours to take down. It houses state of the art audio visual equipment supplied by Grundig, faxes courtesy of Brother and IT equipment provided by Hewlett Packard. Deutsche Post have sponsored the building of the new unit and have struck a deal to enable the team's physiotherapist to be available to help members of the media with any injuries.
