Race Organisers Call For UK Government Help
Octagon Motorsports says they will need government assistance to solve the traffic problems at Silverstone.

It was reported earlier that the FIA has asked the organizers of the 2001 British GP for an explanation of the traffic problems at this year's event, despite undertakings earlier in the year that the necessary measures were in place to prevent a repeat of problems that occurred during last year's event.

Octagon Motorsports confirmed the enquiry by the FIA, but insisted that the 2002 British GP was not under threat from being axed from the calendar.

Chief executive for Octagon Motorsports, Rob Bain called on the government for assistance in resolving the traffic problems and Motorsport News quoted him: 'It is impossible for us to solve totally the traffic problems. This is an area which we need proper support from the government. Some of the problems we faced this year you simply can't legislate for. Even so we made a lot of improvements and hope to take it a step further in 2002.'
