Saturday Practice - Brazilian Grand Prix 2001 Season Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jarno Trulli were sixth and 11th fastest at the end of an eventful morning practice for Benson & Hedges Jordan Honda.
Frentzen, not fully satisfied with the handling of his car, suffered an engine failure in the closing minutes of practice while Trulli had very little running thanks to a misfire.
'We began to make some progress with the set-up towards the end of practice,' said Frentzen. 'But, overall, I'm not happy with the balance of the car. Apart from an engine failure while coming into the pits at the end of the last run, there were no major problems this morning. But I'm not satisfied with the fine tuning of the handling. Qualifying is going to be very tight and it's important to find every tenth of a second we can. We are putting together all the information we have now and hope everything works this afternoon!'
Trulli could not believe his misfortune when, yet again, the promise of a good practice session on the first day was thwarted by technical problems on Saturday morning.
'I only had one run this morning,' said Trulli at the end of the two 45-minute sessions. 'The car felt good although the track was not that quick early on. It was obviously going to improve and I wanted to see how everything would develop. There was a problem with the engine during the first session but changes to various components did not help. As soon as I went out in the second session, the misfire was still there. There was no alternative but to come into the pits so that the team could start an engine change. With so little running this morning, it's going to be difficult. I will try to do the best I can.'
Juan Pablo Montoya was quickest at the end of the two essions run in sunny and hot conditions as the ambient temperature reached 28 deg C. The Williams driver was faster than the two McLarens of Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard. Michael Schumacher (Ferrari) was fifth fastest, four tenths of a second slower than his brother Ralf in the second Williams. There were no major incidents or problems this morning although Jordan Grand Prix personnel were flat out completing two engine changes in time for qualifying.
