Preview - European Grand Prix 2001 Season Thursday 21 - Sunday 24 June 2001.
Nurburgring Circuit
Set high in the Eifel Mountains, rain is usually a frequent occurrence at Nurburgring, making the racing here generally quite exciting. It can be a fight for survival as cars squeeze through the first two tight corners. The current circuit is built over the pit lane area of the former Nordschleife track - the fourteen mile circuit that ceased to be used after Niki Lauda's crash in 1976, after which time the German Grand Prix moved to Hockenheim for seven years. Revisions to the Nurburgring made the track safer and it reopened as a Grand Prix circuit in 1984. Now boasting modern facilities, the track provides a mixture of corners with some long straights, large gravel traps for improved safety and two good opportunities for overtaking.
HH T0 Race At Nurburgring
Heinz-Harald Frentzen is set to return to racing this weekend at Nurburging. Full confirmation will be made on Thursday at the circuit.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen on the European Grand Prix
'Nurburgring is not my favourite track, but it has some good points. It's great for spectators as they can see most of the track. The Castrol-S corner at the end of the start/finish straight and the Veedol-S chicane at the end of the lap provide good overtaking opportunities. The 190 degree Dunlop curve also has interesting features with high banking and a good grip level.'
Jarno Trulli on the European Grand Prix
'I know this track very well as I drove here many times in the German F3 Championship. I'm looking forward to Nurburgring as I have very good memories from when I achieved my first podium here in 1999. It would be great to manage a similar result again this year.'

Testing Times
Jordan entertained 1,000 Club Jordan supporters and sponsors during the three day test at Silverstone last week, all of whom enjoyed guided tours of the team's garage and factory. Those attending on the final day were treated to an impromptu live performance from UK TV comedian, Brian Conley, who was attending as a Jordan guest.
Commercial Break
Timed with this weekend's European Grand Prix, RTL Germany will air a Deutsche Post commercial staring Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Eddie Jordan. The advertisement was filmed at Silverstone in May, when a crew of over 90 turned the home of the British Grand Prix into something more akin to a Hollywood film set. The full story of the meeting between the Worlds of F1 and Advertising can be read in the Summer edition of J, out this month. Other features in the Summer edition include an interview with Bryan Ferry and Eddie Jordan, to coincide with the reforming of Roxy Music who commence their tour this month in Dublin. Also included is a profile of Honda's Superbike World Champion, Colin Edwards, a review of Audi's assault on Le Mans, memories from Jordan's first ever points in Canada 1991 and a feature with Jordan's third driver, Ricardo Zonta. Subscriptions to J are available by mail order or online at f1jordan.com
Jordan Honda Bikers
Jordan's joint Managing Director, Trevor Foster, Senior Race Engineer, David Brown and Head of Marketing, Mark Gallagher, will set off for Nurburging by motorbike. The three bikers - Foster on a Honda SP1 and Gallagher on a Honda Fireblade - will travel the 440 miles stopping overnight en route in Spa, Belgium, for a spin around the track before completing the remaining seventy-six miles across the Ardennes mountains to Nurburgring on Thursday morning. 'By mid season it is always good to clear your head to allow for increased focus at the races,' said Foster. Driving by bike to Nurburgring is the perfect way to escape for a day and arrive for this double-header refreshed and invigorated.' A full account of their road trip will feature in Autumn's J magazine.
Latest Testing Information
Fresh from his racing debut for Jordan in Montreal, Ricardo Zonta joined Jarno Trulli for the test last week, standing in for Heinz-Harald Frentzen who continued to rest following his withdrawal in Canada. Both Trulli and Zonta concentrated mainly on chassis set-up and tyre testing for the British Grand Prix, also completing tyre testing for the forthcoming back-to-back Grands Prix at Nurburgring and Magny-Cours. Use of the HANS device (Head and Neck Safety System), which is to become an FIA requirement for drivers to wear from 2002, was mandatory for this test. The team felt it had completed a productive and comprehensive test. The next test will take place in Monza, commencing on 3 July.
