Friday Practice Results 2001 Season The home Grand Prix for Benson and Hedges Jordan Honda got off to a good start today when Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jarno Trulli were fifth and ninth fastest at the end of the first day.
'We think it may be wet tomorrow and during the race, so we have to be ready for all circumstances,' said Frentzen. 'More or less everything went according to plan today and we achieved what we wanted to achieve. Of course, because Silverstone is our home track, we already have quite a bit of information although surprisingly, considering the British weather, if it rains tomorrow it will be the first day for me at Silverstone in wet conditions! I have mainly tested in the dry.'
The two sixty minute sessions were run in overcast conditions with rain falling in the final few minutes. Jordan took the opportunity to fit intermediate tyres on both cars for the last couple of laps.
'I did many laps because I wanted to check the feeling and balance of the car in race conditions,' said Trulli, who celebrates his 27th birthday today. 'It's not too bad, so we will look at the information and concentrate on what we are going to do tomorrow. So far, so good.'
'It was the usual Friday doing race set-up,' said Tim Holloway, Head of Engineering. 'With Bridgestone bringing a new tyre for the race it was important that we did a good back-to-back comparing the tyres. We have got a lot of data to look through tonight. Heinz did a good job considering he lost a bit of running due an oil leak - nothing serious but it took a short time to put that right. We're generally happy with the way things went. When it started to rain towards the end of the second session, both cars went out with intermediate tyres because we needed to pick up what information we could, although the track wasn't quite wet enough.'

The McLarens of Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard were fastest, both drivers saying their cars felt well balanced. Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher, third and fourth fastest, were trying various set-ups on their Ferraris and were not particularly happy with the performance. The
Williams team appeared to be struggling with handling problems as Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya, eighth and 17th fastest, suggesting that their tyres were not working at the maximum in the cooler conditions.
There were several spins - none serious and Pedro de la Rosa lost the entire morning session when his Jaguar stopped with injection problems on the first lap out. The Spaniard finished the day in seventh place, team-mate Eddie Irvine claiming 13th fastest time after, like most drivers, running with a race fuel load on board.
