Saturday Practice - Monaco Grand Prix 2000 Season Mixed morning for Jordan Grand Prix prior to Qualifying
Jarno Trulli looks to be in good shape for qualifying after setting fourth fastest time during this morning's practice. But Heinz-Harald Frentzen lost a lot of track time after locking his brakes and getting stuck in an escape road, the German driver finishing the session in ninth place after running just three laps in the second half of morning practice.
Trulli said he was 'happier' with his car as he continued working on the set-up. At least he has a good idea of what will be needed for the 60-minute qualifying session, unlike Frentzen, who was unable to get down to work on a qualifying set-up.
'Heinz went in too fast and took to the escape road at the first corner (Ste Devote),' said Trevor Foster, Managing Director, Jordan Grand Prix. 'He kissed the tyres at the end of the escape road but the car just would not go into reverse. It was one of those things that sometimes happens. He just needed to roll forward slightly for the gears to engage but, of course, he couldn't. So he had to turn the engine off and miss the rest of the session. Spare cars can only be used during qualifying and the race.'
David Coulthard also finished the morning in the same escape road, but after the McLaren driver had just set what would be the fastest time of the session ahead of Michael Schumacher (Ferrari). Drivers say that the main problem this afternoon will be finding a clear track - and staying away from the walls and kerbs waiting to trap the unwary.
