Saturday Practice - American Grand Prix 2000 Season The learning process continued this morning as all 22 drivers tried to find the best set-up to suit the unique combination of banked curves, long straight and twisting infield at Indianapolis.
The day began with the track still damp from overnight rain, the infield section in particular taking a long time to dry. This cut into valuable time as Jordan Grand Prix continued the search for the ideal set-up for both qualifying later this afternoon and tomorrow's 73-lap race.
'The track has been changing quite a bit,' said Trevor Foster, Managing Director, Jordan Grand Prix. 'Like everyone else, we have been trying to get a balance on the cars, and that has been proving very difficult. Even after the two 45-minute sessions this morning, a clear-cut picture has not emerged. You can lose the plot very quickly here and, if you're not careful, go down the wrong road. It's a very fine line and we have not yet found it.
'Heinz-Harald had no problems but, quite early on in the session, we found that there was a small engine problem on Jarno's car. There was a slight loss of power but, unfortunately, there was not enough time to change the engine. It was better to stay out on the track and gather more much-needed experience. The learning is going to continue into qualifying and we're going to have to continue thinking on our feet.'
Jordan Grand Prix drivers Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Jarno Trulli were sixth and tenth fastest respectively, with the Ferraris of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello leading the field.
