Jordan Grand Prix was founded in 1990 by Eddie Jordan in preparation for his first season of competition in Formula One. Eddie Jordan Racing, the original Jordan team founded in 1980, operated from a lock-up industrial unit inside the grounds of Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, and several of Jordan Grand Prix’s current employees have worked for the team since long before the team competed in F1. Since 1991, Jordan Grand Prix has been based at a purpose built factory across the road from Silverstone circuit, while a 40% scale wind tunnel five miles away in Brackley was opened in July 1998. The team has grown from 43 employees in its first season, to around 200 staff in 2004.

In early 2005 Jordan Grand Prix was purchased by the Midland Group as part of their preparations for launching Midland F1 in the 2006 World Championship. The Midland Group is a privately owned investment-holding organisation led by Russian-Canadian Alex Shnaider.
