Tomas Enge was born on 11th September 1976 in Liberec. The son of one of the most successful drivers in Czech history, Bretislave Enge, (BMW team driver with Christian Danner and competitor of opponents such as Gerhard Berger and Tom Wilkinshaw), Tomas Enge is following in the footsteps of his father's success.
Enge began his career with a short spell in karting before attending the Jiri Micanek racing school in Brno at the age of 15. As soon as he was able legally to acquire a Czech driving licence at the age of 16, he competed in his first race - the Ford Fiesta Cup. He continued in this series for a further three years before moving to Formula Ford. In 1996 Enge joined motor racing heroes Senna, Mansell, Fittipaldi, Hunt, Hill and Schumacher, as a winner of this series, a victory which paved the way for his entry into the higher echelons of motor racing.
In 1997 Enge competed in the F3 German Championship. Eighteen months later he made his FIA F3000 debut with Auto Sport racing at Hockenheim, half way through the 1998 season, quickly establishing himself as a front runner in the formula. His best result came at the French Grand Prix in 1999 where he finished second for WRT (World Racing Team).
For the 2000 season Tomas Enge is the official test driver of the Benson and Hedges Jordan team. He will also compete in the 2000 FIA Formula 3000 Championship for McLaren Mercedes.
