Formula 1 World Championships

The 2002 Formula 1 World Championship consists of 17 events - known as 'Grands Prix' - and each race counts towards two separate titles - the World Championship for Constructors (the team's series) and the World Championship for Drivers (the drivers' series). Formula 1 is unique in motorsport because each team must design, manufacture and develop its own car, which is why the teams' championship is called the 'Constructors' series.

There are 11 teams taking part in the 2002 season. It is mandatory for each team to enter two cars. In Formula 1 teams enter the same two drivers for the entire season, normally replacing them only in the event of a regular driver being injured.

Jordan Grand Prix, founded in 1991 by flamboyant Irishman Eddie Jordan, has brought colour and a sense of humour to Formula 1.

2002 sees a new driver line-up, with the return of Giancarlo Fisichella, who made his Formula 1 debut with Jordan in 1997, and the signing of Takuma Sato. Jordan has a new energy and hunger for Formula 1 success and begins the season ready to work hard towards its ultimate goal of winning the World Championship.
