Currently the most experienced active F1 driver, Jean Alesi, 37, has a long and distinguished racing history with over a decade in Formula One and almost 200* Grand Prix race starts to his name.

Commencing his racing career eighteen years ago in the Renault 5 Turbo Cup, he quickly moved to Formula Renault in 1984 where he was runner-up in the championship during his second season. A progression to the French F3 championship in 1986, racing for his brother Jose's team further established Alesi's racing career as he finished runner-up in his first season and was crowned French F3 Champion one year later.

As reigning F3000 champion with Eddie Jordan Racing in 1989, Alesi got his F1 break that same year and made his debut with Tyrrell at the French Grand Prix. Alesi soon graduated to Ferrari in 1991 for five seasons, where he recorded his one race victory to date, at Canada in 1995. Moving to Benetton for 1996 and 1997, the Frenchman achieved a number of podium finishes and finished fourth in the Drivers' Championship both years. A frustrating two years with the Sauber team followed and many predicted that the spirited Frenchman was coming to the end of his career.

For 2000 however, Alesi signed up with the team owned by his former Ferrari team mate, Alain Prost, where he also remained for the first 12 races of the 2001 season before deciding to part company with the French based team.

Alesi now brings a wealth of experience to the Benson and Hedges Jordan Honda team where he returns to race in yellow Jordan overalls and rejoins his former Irish boss as well as four Jordan mechanics that he worked and won with twelve years ago.
