Petrobras Distribuidora (BR) started its lubricants activities for automotive applications with the LUBRAX brand in 1973. Since this time, BR has grown to become the market leader in Brazil and now boasts a network of 7,000 petrol stations around the country, with lubricating oils produced for automotive, railroad, marine and industrial applications. BR began to develop and supply lubricants for motorsport activities in 1996 including Formula Chevrolet, Formula 3 in South America, Formula Truck, Stock Car and Formula 3000 International.
The Petrobras Research Centre is now developing special LUBRAX gearbox lubricants for Jordan Grand Prix and engine oil for the team in conjunction with Honda. It is a synthetic lubricant, designed to provide the highly superior performance required for a race product whilst protecting the gear teeth as they withstand the high speed and quick shift gear changes.
